About Prof. Noemi Gyori

Hailed for her passionate and vibrant performances as well as the creative, elaborate interpretations which have captivated audiences worldwide, Noemi Gyori is quickly establishing a name in the classical music scene as an exceptional and versatile flutist, equally in demand as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral flutist and pedagogue, both on the modern and baroque flutes.

Noemi graduated with honours from the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest from the class of Henrik Prőhle in 2007 and completed post-graduate studies at
the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Barbara Gisler-Haase and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with András Adorján. She has studied the baroque flute with Lisa Beznosiuk at the Royal Academy of Music and with Benedek Csalog in Budapest. She is the first flutist ever to be awarded a PhD in Performance Practice from the Royal Academy of Music in London, a title, she received in 2020.

Noemi has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician at major international festivals in 29 countries. As a soloist she has worked with, amongst others, the Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne, the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, the Krakow Academy Orchestra, the Luxembourg Academy Chamber Orchestra, the Jewish Chamber Orchestra Munich, the Amadinda Percussion Group, the Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra and almost all symphony and chamber orchestras in her native Hungary. She will debut with the Hungarian National Philharmonic as a soloist in the fall of 2022. Noemi is a dedicated performer of contemporary music, she has performed a wide array of works dedicated to her and is currently collaborating with British composer Christian Mason as well as Mate Balogh (the chair of the Hungarian Composer's Society) who are dedicating her new flute concertos to be premiered in 2023-2024 with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège and the Concerto Budapest.

Since 2008, she has been principal flute of the Jewish Chamber Orchestra Munich and has played as a guest in orchestras as the BBC Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (at the Vienna State Opera). In 2011 Noemi was awarded the European Cultural Prize for Young Artists for her outstanding artistic achievements. In 2012, she won the Career Prize of the New York based Salon de Virtuosi Foundation. In both 2006 and 2009 she received the Performers’ Prize of the Artisjus Music Foundation in Hungary for her outstanding performances of Hungarian contemporary compositions. Her debut CD featuring world premiere recordings of Antonio Nava’s flute and guitar music was released by Hungaroton in 2011, followed by Glowing Sonorities, an album in 2016 with romantic flute sonatas. Her next recording, Transforming Traditions (2019) captured own unique flute guitar transcriptions of keyboard works by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, while in 2020, she released her rendition of Quartets by Haydn and Mozart on Hungaroton label. Her fifth album was released on Rubicon Classics in April 2022, featuring works by Doppler and Kuhau with her husband Gergely Madaras on the flute and Alexander Ullman
