About Prof. Wolfgang Boettcher
WOLFGANG BOETTCHER Cello
1935 born in Berlin, began his career as prizewinner of the International ARD Competition in Munich, in duo with his sister and pianist Ursula Trede. As a soloist he paaeared worldwide with Herbert von Karajan, Sergiu Celibidache, Yehudi Menuhin, Witold Lutoslawski und Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Wolfgang Boettcher performed at the Vienna, Berlin an Salzburg festivals, Festival Marais in Paris, The English Bach Festival, the Lockenhaus Festival in Kuhmo and numerous other around the globe. Concert tours have led him throughout Europe, Soviet Union/Russia as well as Japan, South America, East Asia and Israel.
Till 1976 Wolfgang Boettcher was soloist of the Berlin Philharmonic. He resigned his position in order to devote himself to his solo career and also became Professor at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. He has educated a number of outstanding young cellists. Beside his solo playing, chamber music takes an important place in his life. Wolfgang Boettcher has recorded for the DG and EMI, Nimbo labels among others. He gives masterclasses in many European countries and alos in Japan. Since 1988 he is member of Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste in Munich. Between 1986 to 1992 he was Artistic Director of the festival Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker.
