Born in 1977 in Friedberg Jan Ickert received his first Cello lessons by Maike Kunstreich at Dr. Hoch’s Konservatorium in Frankfurt, followed by studies with professors such as Susanne Müller-Hornbach, Andreas Greger and Michael Sanderling at music colleges in Wuppertal, Berlin and Frankfurt. After additional studies with Professor Joseph Schwab he completed his concert exam in 2010. Jan Ickert attended master classes with Bernard Greenhouse, Peter Bruns, Wen-Sinn Yang, Gustav Rivinius, Wolfgang Boettcher, Jens-Peter Maintz and Troels Svane.

In 2002 he founded the Chagall-Quartet Berlin, who won several distinguished prizes at international competitions such as the Pergamenschikow-Prize for Chamber Music, the 2nd prize at the International Joseph-Joachim-chamber music competition as well as a 2nd prize at the German Hochschulwettbewerb.

With the Chagall-Quartet he was invited to play at international festivals such as Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Mozartfest in Würzburg, the Euriade-Festival Holland, the Osnabrücker Kammermusiktage and the Rheingau-Musikfestival.

Jan Ickert has a lot of orchestral activities.

Since 2011 he has been a regular substitute with the orchestra of the Frankfurt Opera House and HR-Sinfonieorchester.

For the season 2009/2010 he was also the associate principal cello of the Erfurt Opera Orchestra.

Previous appointments include the orchestra of the Klangverwaltung, directed by Enoch zu Guttenberg, the chamber orchestra Spira Mirabilis, the Kremerata Baltica led by Gidon Kremer and - as principal cello - the Folkwang chamber orchestra Essen and Bayerische Kammerphilharmonie (Reinhard Goebel).

2008-2018 Jan Ickert has been a devoted teacher for Cello and Chamber Music at the Emanuel-Feuermann-Konservatorium, Kronberg Academy, furthermore he has been holding the position as the musical director of the institute since 2013.

Since 2011 Jan Ickert has been teaching at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt and as a guest professor 2016-2017 in Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst Mannheim.

2017 he was appointed as a professor in Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst Frankfurt.

His masterclasses in Germany and abroad led him to the Casalmaggiore International Festival, Musiksommer Leutkirch, Talent Music Master Classes Brescia and to the International Summer Academy at the Heiligenberg castle.

His students won several prizes in International Competitions and hold positions in well- known orchestras.
