Born into a family of musicians in Bulgaria in 1984, Vitan Ivanov started his musical studies at the age of ten. After finishing his studies in Bulgaria, Vitan moved to London in 2002 to complete his Undergraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in the class of professor Thomas Martin.

By the time Vitan graduated from the Guildhall School of Music&Drama, London, he was already a prizewinner of many international double bass competitions, including the J.M. Sperger Double bass Competition, Germany 2004 and Pruner Double bass Competition, Romania 2002. Vitan has also received numerous awards from the Martin Music Scholarship Fund and the Musicians Benevolent Fund and has performed in major venues in London and other European cities.

In May 2006, Vitan was awarded with a Glass Trophy and a Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians of London for his performance of the Bottesini Concerto for double bass and string orchestra at the Barbican Hall in London. In June 2009, Vitan made his Madrid debut as soloist with the
Orquesta Sinfonica de Madrid in Auditorio Nacional under the batton of Maestro Jesus Lopez Cobos.

Since September 2006, Vitan is a Principal bass of the Orquesta Sinfonica de Madrid, resident orchestra of the Teatro Real, Madrid and has made appearances as a principal bass player with the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, London, Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, Orquesta Sinfonica de Tenerife, Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid.

Vitan has also played with the Netherlands Pilharmonic Orchestra, Mahler Chamber orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, London, Amsterdam Sinfonietta among others, working with the most distinguished conductors. Vitan has given numerous master classes in Spain and around Europe and since September 2021 teaches double bass at the Forum Musicae High Music School in Madrid and is a visiting professor at the London Performing Academy of Music.
