About Prof. Silvia Marcovici

The Morgenpost newspaper noted regarding the Tchaikovsky concert performed with the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of Marcello Viotti:

",..In her interpretation, Silvia Marcovici brought out a completely new sound, proving her artistic dimension. The admirable tone, the fascinating flexibility of each phrase, the fiery temperament, and the extraordinary energy are traits that lend her performance an impressive strength, without sentimentality."

Trained in the Romanian violin tradition and a student of Professor Stefan Gheorghiu, Silvia Marcovici is now a world-renowned artist.

At 16, she made her debut under the baton of Bruno Maderna, and ayear later, she won the first prize at the Marguerite Long Jacques Thibaud Competition (Paris, 1969). In 1970, she won the first prize at the Georges Enesco Competition.

A key moment that propelled her onto the international stage was her 1972 performance with Leopold Stokowski, who invited her to perform the Glazunov Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra, a concert recorded by DECCA.

Since then, her career trajectory has resonated with her violin in some of the most prestigious music venues in Europe, as well as in far-off Japan, North and South America, each time under renowned conductors: Eugene Ormandy, Erich Leinsdorf, Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle, Bernard Haitink, Sergiu Comissiona, Kirill Petrenko, David Zinman, Eliahu Imbal, Riccardo Muti, Kurt Masur, André Previn, Neeme Jarvi, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Michael Gielen, Zubin Mehta, and Mstislav Rostropovich.

A multifaceted musician with a captivating stage presence, Silvia Marcovici approaches chamber music with the same ease, performing with artists such as Pascal Rogé, Boris Berezovsky, Itamar Golan, Dominique Merlet, Bruno Rigutto, and her son Aimo Pagin, as well as cellists David Geringas, Antonio Meneses, Boris Pergamenscikow, and Lynn Harrell. She also performed with her daughter Sarah Pagin in Turin under the baton of Eliahu Imbal.

Recently, Silvia Marcovici collaborated in a memorable concert with Evgeny Kissin and Alexander Kniasev at the Radio France Festival, performing Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky’s trio.

Among her discographic recordings, the Sibelius concerto (Neeme Jarvi) and Carl Nielsen (Yoel Levi) stand out. The DOREMI record label released an album dedicated to Silvia Marcovici in the "Legendary Treasures" series.

Silvia is also a professor at the Perosi Academy in Biella, Italy.
