About Prof. Julia Rebekka Brembeck-Adler
The prizewinner of the Mendelssohn-Bartholdy Competition studied with renowned teachers including Kim Kashkashian, Johannes Lüthy, Wolfram Christ, Christoph Poppen, Walter Levin, Yuri Bashmet, and Hartmut Rohde. She is a former member of the Kuss Quartet and the Viardot Piano Quartet, a founding member of the Berlin Soloists’ Octet, and served for many years as Associate Principal Viola of the Munich Philharmonic.
Her chamber music partners include pianists José Gallardo, Prof. Axel Gremmelspacher, and Jascha Nemtsov, with whom she explores forgotten works by Jewish composers. Her repertoire spans a wide musical range, as reflected in her internationally acclaimed recordings. These include classical viola concertos, the solo sonatas of Mieczysław Weinberg, rediscoveries of forgotten composers, and even the tangos of Astor Piazzolla.
In addition to the viola, she also plays the viola d’amore and has engaged in studies with Reinhard Goebel on historical performance practice in Baroque music. Her openness to contemporary music has led to numerous world premieres, including works by Wolfgang von Schweinitz, Marc Sabat, Gerald Eckart, Johannes Schöllhorn, Favio Daiban, Pablo Aguirre, Eva Sindichakis, Wilfried Hiller, Max Beckschäfer, Dorothea Hofmann, David Loeb, and Gerardo Gandini.
