About Mikhail Milman

MIKHAIL MILMAN Cello

Mikhail Milman studied at the Moscow Conservatoire with Natlia Gutman and Mstislav Rostropovich; in addition, he studied with Valentin Berlinsky. He was principal cellist of the Moscow Virtuosi, under Vladimir Spivakov, for twenty years, and as such toured extensively throughout Europe and America. As a chamber musician he has worked with many distinguished artists including Evgeny Kissin, Yuri Bashmet, Maria Joao Pires and Vladimir Spivakov. He collaborated regularly with the Borodin Quartet for many years in both concerts and recordings; in particular, two recordings with the Borodin Quartet were highly acclaimed: the Schubert String Quintet and Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence, the lattter winning a Gramophone Award in 1994. He has also recorded chamber music with Vladimir Spivakov. A well-known teacher, he gives regular masterclasses in Europe. After settling in Spain, he spent some years as principal cello of the City of Oviedo Symphony Orchestra and then principal cello of the Orchestra of Cordoba.
